Arm Lift in Fargo, ND

An arm lift – also called a Brachioplasty – is a procedure that tightens and tones the upper arm. With age and dramatic weight loss, the skin loses its elasticity and begins to sag or hang in folds and unfortunately, no amount of dieting or exercise can remove the excess skin. However, an arm lift can remove the excess skin and fatty deposits to reshape the arm for a more toned and contoured appearance.

Besides appearance, some patients report discomfort from areas that are the focus of an arm lift. Loose hanging skin can cause discomfort and irritation as well as limit your clothing options and make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. An arm lift can eliminate possible chafing of the skin and your mobility will also be improved.

It is worth noting that an arm lift only removes loose, hanging skin that has lost its elasticity and is unable to retract back to a taut appearance. It does not address any pockets of fat that may also be present. That is where combining an arm lift with liposuction would be beneficial. An arm lift is often combined with liposuction to achieve optimum results. When performed together, the flabby skin and fat that are left over after weight loss is removed to restore a firm, evenly contoured appearance to your upper arms.

FAQ: Arm Lift

How long is the recovery from arm lift surgery?

You may experience some minor swelling at the treatment site along with mild discomfort directly following surgery, but these symptoms are often easily alleviated with prescribed pain medications. You will be encouraged to sleep with your arms in an elevated position for the first week to lessen swelling, and patients are typically able to return to work and normal activities within two weeks following surgery.

Who is an ideal candidate for arm lift surgery?

The best candidates for an arm lift procedure are not significantly overweight and want to enhance their existing figure by removing excess arm skin.

What are the risks of arm lift surgery?

Just like with any surgical procedure, there are some potential risks related to arm lifts, such as bleeding, infection, and a negative reaction to anesthesia. However, an arm lift is a relatively safe and routine procedure and risks are minimal.

Can I combine arm lift surgery with other procedures?

Patients with excess skin in the upper arms will usually have excess skin in other areas, particularly as the result of significant weight loss, and would potentially benefit from other body contouring procedures such as a thigh lift, or tummy tuck.

Will my arm lift surgery results be permanent?

The results from an arm lift should last a very long time as long as you remain committed to a healthy lifestyle and long-term weight maintenance. Significant fluctuations in weight or continued loss of skin elasticity due to age may affect the results over time.
