Eyelid Surgery

Rejuvenate Your Vision & Refresh Your Appearance

Eyelid Surgery in Fargo, ND

We perform cosmetic eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, in Fargo, ND to improve the look of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Sometimes called “eye lift” surgery, the procedure can reduce drooping, excess skin around the eyes that can create a tired or puffy appearance. Guests are often surprised how this simple procedure that requires little downtime can have such a big effect on their appearance, helping them look younger and brighter. This procedure involves modification to the skin, muscle, and fat of the eyelids to produce a more youthful appearance.

Some typical signs of aging of the upper eyelids include the development of excess skin that can sag and interfere with peripheral vision, and excess fat usually seen at the inner portion of the upper eyelid. Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids to address excessive skin that may be causing issues with vision, but it can also be performed on the lower eyelid to remove any excess skin or fat to produce a more youthful appearance.

If you have any of the following conditions you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery:

  • Drooping eyelids
  • Excess skin on upper eyelids
  • Bags under eyes
  • Puffy lower eyelids
  • Asymmetric eyelid position

At Center for Plastic Surgery, we carefully research and recommend only the most reliable surgical solutions that we believe will provide the best and most consistent results for our guests. The staff at CFPS pledges to carefully listen to each guest’s individual goals and vision for their improvements. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Adams to see if you are a candidate for this procedure!

FAQ: Eyelid Surgery

How long is the recovery from eyelid surgery?

You may feel some discomfort for a few days after surgery, but this is usually well controlled with prescription pain medication. You will have some swelling and bruising around the eyes which will progress over 2-3 days then begin to improve. However due to the ointment and drops prescribed you may have some blurry vision that may interfere with everyday activities.

Who is an ideal candidate for eyelid surgery?

The best candidates are healthy individuals usually in their 40’s to 60’s who have developed the typical signs of eyelid aging. Patients with eye diseases or issues like excessive dryness, thyroid disease with involvement of the eyes, certain conditions of the eyelids and patients who have had recent Lasik surgery are not good candidates for eyelid surgery. The majority of people are able to return to work a week after surgery and a majority can return to normal activities strenuous after three weeks.

What are the risks of eyelid surgery?

The most devastating complication that has been reported is blindness, but this is extremely rare. Another rare complication is excessive scarring within the lower eyelid resulting in the lower eyelid being pulled down producing an unattractive appearance and/or dry eyes. This usually resolves on its own but may require more eyelid surgery to repair the problem. More commonly, patients report temporary dry eyes after eyelid surgery for several days and or even weeks. This is usually treated with lubricating drops and ointments until the symptoms resolve.

Can I combine my eyelid surgery with other procedures?

Eyelid surgery can be an excellent complement to a facelift, necklift, browlift, or dermal fillers or injectables. Many patients choose to combine this procedure with others to reduce many recovery times.

Will eyelid surgery help with crow’s feet?

Because of the way eyelid surgery is performed, this procedure won’t remove the fine lines and wrinkles at the outer edges of the eyes known as crow’s feet. Instead, Dr. Adams may recommend including dermal injections to address this issue.

How much does eyelid surgery cost in North Dakota?

The cost of eyelid surgery can vary. After your consultation with Dr. Adams, we will provide a detailed cost estimate, and will also discuss payment methods, scheduling, and financing options. In general, price shopping for surgery isn’t recommended. It is best to choose a plastic surgeon that you are comfortable with, trust, and one that has the proper training from an accredited plastic surgery training program.
